Since it was introduced at the World’s Fair on April 17, 1964 and manufactured alongside other 1964 Fords, the earliest models are sometimes referred to as 1964.5 Mustangs or 1964 1/2 Mustangs. However, all of the VINs were marked 1965, so some refer to them as early ’65s. At first only the Mustang Hardtop and Convertible were available. It wouldn’t be until August of 1964, when the plant was shut down for retooling, that the Fastback would be produced. There were several options for the first Mustang; you could get padded sun visors, A/C, a front bench seat and the ever popular styled steel wheels. Convertible top operation was manual, unless the power top option was ordered. Hollywood’s first taste of the Mustang came with 1964’s Goldfinger. Dallas Mustang carries many of the 1964 Mustang parts to help with your full restoration.
