1966 Mustang Information

in 1966 Hertz Rent-A-Car ordered nearly 1,000 1966 Mustang Shelby GT350’s (also known as Rent-A-Racers) dramatically increasing sales. The 1966 Mustang brought a few visual changes, most of them aesthetic.  The pony in the grill is no longer flanked by horizontal and vertical bars (except with the Mustang GT Equipment Group) and the honeycomb is replaced by a brick-like design. The wheel covers and gas cap were all redesigned. The instrument panel was redesigned and seat belts, flashers and electric windshield wipers became standard.  The previously optional round gauges became standard. On March 2, 1966 the one millionth Mustang rolled off the assembly line, Ford celebrated with a specially equipped Limited Edition Mustang Sprint 200 hardtop, with a chrome air cleaner, wire wheel covers, center console and the Safety Equipment Group.
