1998 Mustang Information

  • Production year was extended by three months and Ford produced almost 70,000 more 1998 Mustangs than 1997 Mustangs
  • Two new exterior colors were offered and dash mounted clock pod was gone, as clock was in the radio now
  • Changes to the exhaust system increased horsepower by 10 over previous year
  • Next year the Mustang would get a restyle again

1997 Mustang Information

  • One of the only notable changes was loss of the honeycomb grill that had just been added the previous year
  • Production for all models decreased except for production of the Mustang Cobra
  • Mystic paint from the previous year was gone

1996 Mustang Information

  • A few changes on the exterior include a backdrop behind the pony on the grille
  • Taillights changed with a narrower more vertical appearance
  • First year PATS key was used; standard for Mustang GTs and Cobra Mustangs, and optional for all others
  • Ford retired overhead-valve small block V-8 after almost 40 years and replaced with the modular overhead-cam 4.6 V-8
  • Cobra Mustangs had the "COBRA" rear bumper, and hood with larger air inlets
  • Year of the Mystic Cobra with color changing paint that is tightly controlled and paint touch-ups have to be done directly through Ford

1994 Mustang Information

  • Code named SN-95, three different design plans were submitted for the all-new 1994 Mustang (The Bruce Jenner, the Rambo and the Arnold Schwarzenegger), but Schwarzenegger beat the competition and the sleek muscular look was adopted as the new Mustang
  • Team Mustang was developed and the design process, lasting 3+ years, all happened under one roof
  • Still based on Fox platform, but so many changes were made they began referring to it as the Fox-4
  • More leg room, better handling and more solid feel than its predecessor
  • In a nod to 1969 and 1970 Mustangs, dash had swooping lines to match exterior
  • Removable hard top was supposed to be an option for the 1994, but delays pushed them to 1995 and less than 500 were produced
  • 30 years since the 1964 ½ Mustang was chosen to be the Indy 500 pace car, and in 1994 it was chosen again
