It Worked!
I replaced the original 2.70 ratio drive gears with 3.73. I took it for a test drive and quickly reached 100 mph. While 100 was too fast for the stretch of road I was on, I noticed everyone else was going 100 mph too. Fighting off the Twilight Zone feeling, I rationalized and determined that the situation must be related to the ring and pinion set. After some research, it came down to the speedometer drive gear, or the driven gear. I chose to replace the driven gear, and luckily that's what fixed the issue. Replacing the drive gear requires dropping the tranny. No fun.

The gear is a first rate piece, and installed as though it had always belonged in my 1994 T5.
